Davis Elementary started their Computers@Home project with an informational meeting on November 25th. Jill Shepperd, Principal, Ben Benavides, Principal Intern, and Stefanie Ramos, Bilingual Teacher, explained the program to 16 enthusiastic parents.
On
December 17th, the families were taught how to setup their computers. Tita Alarcon,
4th Grade Bilingual Teacher, led the training in Spanish with technical support
provided by the Instructional Technology department. Participants were introduced
to some of the basic software programs loaded on the computers. In addition,
they were provided with an Encyclopedia Britannica CD to take home with their
computers.
Additional
training was held on January 16. Parents & students learned how to install
and use Just Grandma and Me, Little Monster at School, Weather Climate and You,
and Reader Rabbit. All 16 families were in attendance. Another training session
will be in February. Families will receive training on the following software
programs: Zoombinis, Playroom, and Spelling Spree.
