  • What does a child have to know to be successful on the test?
    The Kindergarten Assessment is based on the knowledge and skills found in the state curriculum framework called the TEKS.
 
  • What is the cost of the assessment?
    There is no charge for the exams.
 
  • What is the standard for passing the assessment?
    The district's board policy sets the standard of passing at 90%. Students will be expected to achieve 90% or higher mastery in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
 
  • Would the district use an alternative assessment to determine if my child can advance into first grade?
    The Plano ISD Kindergarten Assessment is the only assessment that the district approves for the purpose of accelerating a student to first grade.  A district committee reviews every child’s results to assure appropriate placement.
 
  • Who administers the assessment to the children?
    All testing is conducted by experienced teachers of young children with specific training in the Plano ISD assessment instruments.
 
  • What is the requirement for Kindergarten Acceleration?

In order for a student to test, he/she must meet the following requirements:

    • A student must be registered as a PISD Kindergarten student.

    • A child must turn six years of age on or before December 31 of the current school year.   (Local Plano ISD Policy requires a child to be at least 6 years old on or before December 31st of the school year for which tested.  There are no exceptions to this policy.)
