ABOUT SPECIAL EDUCATION

Forman students receiving special education services are provided with a continuum of services. Students are viewed as individuals with special needs and because of this are placed in the most appropriate setting. We are able to provide an inclusion setting within the grade level and Explorer's Club, where students may participate in a Content Master/Resource unit. Our entire faculty is student centered, where students feel safe, welcomed and experience successful learning.

Paul Borja
I was born in Cali, Colombia but I keep Texas in my heart. This is my fourth year at Forman Elementary as a bilingual special education teacher. My background as engineer gave me the knowledge to teach and the love for my son gave the courage and passion to learn how to teach students with special needs. My degree is in electronic engineering, artificial intelligence and computer networks from PUJ in Bogota, Colombia 1996. Now my passion is teaching. I live with my son who is in 8th grade and my hobbies are technology, computers, soccer, swimming and biking.

Michelle Powell

This is my seventh year of teaching, and I have had many different jobs. I taught kindergarten for three years, first grade for one year, and am now in my third year of teaching special education. I graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2002 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, and completed my Master’s Degree in Special Education at the University of North Texas in 2007. Currently, I live in McKinney with my husband, our little girl, Claire, and our two Dachshunds, Joskey and Rylee. In my free time, I enjoy singing, reading, and visiting my family in Oklahoma. Teaching is such a joy for me because of the growth I am able to see in my students each year.

Susan Penny Cook
I started at Forman in 2003. This is my sixth year here at Forman. Second grade Special Education Inclusion is where you will find me as I am co-teaching with Miss Gomes and Mrs. Gardner. It is fun here in Second grade we are learning vocabulary, writing, addition, subtraction, problem-solving, science, and social studies. You might see me delivering textbooks for the district as I am the textbook coordinator. Stephen F. Austin is the college I attended where I earned a degree in secondary education with teaching fields in English and General Business. I also have teaching certificates for Elementary Education and in Special Education for grades kindergarten through twelfth grades.

When I am not at school, you will find me on the lake in our blue and white boat, traveling to new places, or maybe in my backyard watching the cardinals and other feathered friends at the birdfeeder or the furry squirrels in the trees.

I moved to Texas in May of this year to be closer to my family.  I currently live with my sister and BIL (Brother-in-Law).  I have one cat that is the apple of my eye and I am the aunt to two cats and a dog.  I’m very proud to be a part of the Forman team. I look forward to working with and watching all the students in 1st grade grow.

"I excited to be one of the Bilingual Special Education teachers here at Forman this year.  Although originally from the beautiful country of Guatemala, I lived and went to school in Oklahoma.  As a new graduate from the University of Central Oklahoma I feel privileged to work here during my first year of teaching.  Every student brings something special to this experience."
