Music Curriculum

The Elementary Music Program enables students to become proficient in reading, writing, performing, and listening through a curriculum based on “musical literacy.” PISD incorporates the Kodaly (pronounced Ko - die ) method for the teaching of music concepts and skills. Music specialists are certified Kodaly teachers or are in training leading to certification. Students are taught to become independent in singing, hearing, deriving, writing, reading, and creating music. In support of this work, techniques by Carl Orff are employed through the use of specially designed instruments. PISD provides a fine arts series for elementary students. The fine arts series includes performances by the Plano Chamber Orchestra, Kathy Burks Marionettes, and The Classics - sponsored performing groups.
