I love Haun Elementary! This school has been a huge part of my family’s life for the 13 years that we have been open. I was one of the original staff members of this school, and take great pride in what we have created. I feel so strongly about Haun that my husband and I moved to the Haun neighborhood when we became parents so that we could raise our children to be a part of the Haun family. We have two girls that are Haun Huskies. Hope is a 5th grader and Faith is in kindergarten. Haun is an outstanding school. This is my 13th year as a Plano school counselor, and all of those years were spent at Haun. Before that, I loved being a second grade teacher for 4 years at Mitchell Elementary. It seems that I can’t leave Plano ISD. While growing up in Plano, I was also a student at Hughston Elementary, Schimelpfenig Middle School, Clark High School, and Plano Senior High.
I love being an elementary school counselor because it allows me to be a teacher and a counselor at the same time. My undergraduate degree was Elementary Education and my master degree was in Texas School Counseling and Licensed Private Counseling.My favorite part of this job is spending time with the children in classes and in smaller group interactions. I teach all of the children at Haun Elementary every other week in Guidance classes. Our topics include friendship skills, citizenship, personal safety, study skills, goal setting, diversity, feelings, career awareness, and drug/alcohol prevention. Individual and group sessions are provided on a recommended basis. Students can be referred by teachers, parents, or students themselves. My goal is to help our children have a happy and successful academic experience while growing socially and emotionally. I want to help meet the needs of all of our outstanding students.
