A
Welcome from our Principal:
Welcome
to the web site for the Hendrick Hawks. We hope this helps you get to
know all about the school your child attends. Our motto is “Failure
is Not an Option” and our mission is to make every student successful.
Positive Relationships with our students, a Rigorous
curriculum and making learning Relevant are cornerstones
of our school.
Hendrick has approximately 880 students and 86 staff members. Each student
is placed on an academic team which consists of four core teachers who
meet weekly to oversee the academic and social needs of the students.
We have a comprehensive elective program in fine arts, athletics, foreign
language, art and skills for living. Our goal is to afford the students
ample opportunities to explore a variety of courses and learning experiences.
We
welcome parents and need their involvement in providing an education for
the students. The administrative team is always available to answer any
questions or listen to comments and concerns.
If you want to contact me for any reason, please email me at Sheila.Spencer@pisd.edu.
PISD
Education Foundation Grants Awarded We
would like to congratulate two of our outstanding teachers who received
grants from the PISD Education Foundation. Congratulations to both of
these teachers.
Hendrick Middle
School, HELP (Hendrick Extended Learning Program), $1,500.00, Rachael
Anderson. Hendrick Extended Learning Program is designed to provide
individualized assistance to students based on academic need throughout
the school year. Every Saturday morning teachers and National Honor Society
students from Clark High School assist students with assignments provided
by their teachers for remediation and extention of the lessons studied
in the classroom. Through objective-driven activities, the students are
able to fill in the "gaps" and become more successful both in
the classroom and on standardized tests.

Hendrick Middle
School, Project-Connect: Makuleke, South Africa, $1,500.00 Kim Durall.
Project-Connect: Makuleke, South Africa buys equipment to connect students
in Plano with students from Makuleke, South Africa via real time video,
emails, and virtual artifact exchanges. This project is affiliated with
Traditional Knowledges of African Villages, a project run by Clapperton
Mavhunga (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Dr. Simon Kang'a
(New York University). This grant sponsored by Nortel.

The full list of
award winners will be available on the PISD
site later this week. For information on donating to the PISD Foundation,

WILLY
WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY
by Barbara Glassner
Friday night I went to see
At Hendrick Middle School,
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
The production was really cool!
It began when Phillip appeared
as Willy
Exuding warmth and personality
Singing about my favorite food
He has star power as anyone can see!
Next came Calvin as Charlie
And Candy Man Alexandra
They could really sing and act
Were they charismatic- well duh!
Next came Vik, Shelby, and
Drake
Savannah, Haley, Gabe- Buckets all,
Were cute as they tried to cheer up Charlie
When his spirits began to fall.
Golden tickets were won by
an hilarious pair,
Kyle and Mom played by Delaney,
Singing “I Eat More” about chocolate
And ending up in a chocolate sea!
Shraddha and Kaleigh were
hilariously pushy
Alexis was a charming Phineous Trout
They were very demanding
“I Want It Now” is what Shraddha’d shout!
The Courtneys and Ishani
were Beauregards
Who loved nothing but chewing gum,
“Chew It” is what she sang
She turned purple after chewing some!
Jordan and Morgan were the
adorable Teavees
A kid totally into his shows,
He couldn’t quit watching tv
Until into the set he goes!
OOMPA LOOMPAS- DOOMPA-DEE-DEE
OOMPA LOOMPAS CUTE AS CAN BE!
KIDS AND COOKS AND SQUIRRELS AND ALL,
CAST AND CREW EARNED THEIR CURTAIN CALL!
This was a total team effort
The singing and dancing first rate,
My review- a five star production
Mrs. Bush- it really was great!

PISD's
IB Program PISD's
International Baccalaureate Program is a rigorous course of study designed
to meet the needs of highly motivated secondary students and to promote
international understanding. The effectiveness of the IB program is due
not only to the depth of the individual courses, but also to the comprehensive
nature of the program. Unlike other honors programs, the IB Program requires
each student to take courses in six academic areas. To qualify for the
International Baccalaureate Diploma, students must take examinations in
six subject areas, participate in the Creativity, Action, and Service
(CAS) program, and write an extended essay during the 11th and 12th grade
years.
