Hendrick Middle School

A Welcome from our Principal:

Welcome to the web site for the Hendrick Hawks. We hope this helps you get to know all about the school your child attends. Our motto is “Failure is Not an Option” and our mission is to make every student successful. Positive Relationships with our students, a Rigorous curriculum and making learning Relevant are cornerstones of our school.

Hendrick has approximately 880 students and 86 staff members. Each student is placed on an academic team which consists of four core teachers who meet weekly to oversee the academic and social needs of the students. We have a comprehensive elective program in fine arts, athletics, foreign language, art and skills for living. Our goal is to afford the students ample opportunities to explore a variety of courses and learning experiences.

We welcome parents and need their involvement in providing an education for the students. The administrative team is always available to answer any questions or listen to comments and concerns.

If you want to contact me for any reason, please email me at Sheila.Spencer@pisd.edu.

Hendrick's Teachers of the Year

Tiffany Alexander
6th Language Arts & Coach
New Teacher of the Year

Tiffany was born in Dallas, Texas. She graduated from Lancaster High School where she lettered in Varsity Cheerleading, Volleyball, Basketball, and was also a member of the State Champion Lady Tiger track and field team. Tiffany completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Tyler. While at UT Tyler, Tiffany participated on the intramural volleyball and basketball teams which advanced to tournament play at TCU and UNT. She also founded two student organizations at UT Tyler, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Black Student Association, which were voted the most active organizations on campus. Tiffany was an active member of the Freshman Orientation Committee, Homecoming Committee, Student Government Association, and was also a Resident Assistant at Stone Ridge Apartments. Her hobbies include reading, writing, shopping and spending time with her dog, Eva Diva. Tiffany is excited about teaching 6th grade Language Arts/Reading and coaching the Lady Hawks’s volleyball and Track teams this year.

Katie Brittain
7th Grade English
Teacher of the Year

Katie Brittain is in her third year at Hendrick Middle School. Prior to coming to Hendrick, Katie taught in Kansas City, Missouri. She earned her undergraduate degree in English Education at Iowa State University and her Master's of Arts in Education at Baker University. Katie is currently working on her administrative certification at Texas A&M-Commerce. When she's not at school or in class, Katie enjoys spending time with her husband, dog, and her friends; trips to visit family and friends in Minnesota, Iowa, and Missouri are on the priority list, too. Katie is thrilled to be part of the Hendrick community and to have the opportunity to work with so many excellent PISD students and parents each day!

PISD's IB Program

PISD's International Baccalaureate Program is a rigorous course of study designed to meet the needs of highly motivated secondary students and to promote international understanding. The effectiveness of the IB program is due not only to the depth of the individual courses, but also to the comprehensive nature of the program. Unlike other honors programs, the IB Program requires each student to take courses in six academic areas. To qualify for the International Baccalaureate Diploma, students must take examinations in six subject areas, participate in the Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS) program, and write an extended essay during the 11th and 12th grade years.
