Anyone wishing to volunteer at Miller Elementary must complete a background check. This process must be repeated at the beginning of each new school year. This includes going on field trips, class parties, library, office, cafeteria, and helping teachers with classroom projects.

Gifted and Talented Program

 

Welcome to Plano I.S.D.! 

Students new to Plano who participated in a gifted program in their former school -   Please request a “PACE Transfer Request Form” from your campus upon enrolling.   You will be asked to provide a letter on official stationary from the former school verifying participation in a gifted program along with copies of the test scores and/or additional information used when placing your student in the gifted program at the former school.  (Decisions can not be made until this information is provided.)  The information will be reviewed by the gifted specialist at your new campus, who will determine if participation may begin immediately or if additional testing is required.
 
Students new to Plano who did not participate in a gifted program in their former school -  Students currently enrolled or enrolling in the first through fifth grades who did not participate in a gifted program in their former school and who entered a Plano I.S.D. elementary school between the dates indicated below are eligible for referral to Saturday morning PACE assessment to be held September 26 at Hughston Elementary School.  PACE referral packets are available at your campus or on-line at     http://www.pisd.edu/parents/advanced.academics/gifted.pace/index.shtml  and must be completed and returned to your campus PACE teacher by 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 18.  (Referral packets received after this date may be held for spring assessment.)

Students are eligible to participate in the Saturday testing if any one of the first three bullets listed below is applicable.

  • first grade students in 2009-2010 who enrolled in PISD between October 21, 2008, and September 18, 2009

 

  • second and fourth grade students in 2009-2010 who enrolled in PISD between February 20, 2009, and September 18, 2009 
  • first, second, and fourth grade students who enroll in PISD after September 18, 2009, will be eligible for the regularly scheduled March/April assessment cycle

 

  • All kindergarten students are eligible for PACE assessment in October/November 2009.  The referral packet must be completed and returned to the PACE teacher by October 23, 2009.

Please note: 
All 3rd and 5th grade students who enrolled between February 20, 2009 and September 18, 2009 will be assessed on campus during the first six weeks of school and will not attend the Saturday testing.

Students must bring two #2 pencils to the testing site and may bring a light healthy snack and juice or water.  (Refrigeration is not available.)   Students are to be dropped off promptly between 7:45 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. and picked up according to the schedule on the back of this page.  (Tests may not be administered to late arrivals.)  Parents are not allowed in the building.  Please be sure to tell your student where to look for you at pick up time.
