Michael Hernandez, Associate Director & Percussion Instructor

Born in San Antonio, Texas, I am a graduate of the University of North Texas, student of Dr. Robert Schietroma, and owner of Dr You Sophisticated Cool (DYSC).

Supporting my percussion experience is participation in DCI top 12 drum and bugle corps and the UNT Drumline. My tenure at Plano Senior High School and its respective cluster, Baylor University, Dr You Sophisticated Cool (DYSC), and consulting positions with area high schools support my teaching and organizational skills. Additionally, I am a founder and Operations Executive of the north Texas based percussion-publishing company, drop6 media, Inc.

As a professional musician, I have performed with the Dallas Wind Symphony and the Richardson Symphony. I was a member of the Desperadoes Steel Band and the Serenaders Traditional Steel Band in Trinidad and Tobago and am presently a member of the Dallas-based Panhandlers Steel Drum Band. My schedule is active with arranging, composing, and publishing of percussion literature through drop6 media, Inc., percussion education consulting, and playing professionally.

Furthermore, I keep an active schedule as a freelance graphic artist involved with companies such as: Threejays Carriages, 84 Automation, West Percussion, and Drop6 Media.

I enjoy life in Allen, Texas with my wife, Kimberly.
