General Information

The PSHS Journalism Department is growing. We are pleased to announce that two advisers will now be working with the school's publications. Catherine Golden, English teacher, will now oversee production of the school yearbook. Gayle Johnson will advise the school newspaper and teach the journalism courses.

The journalism department offers several classes. Students enrolled in yearbook produce The Planonian, a full-color yearbook with more than 350 pages. Yearbook staff members also publish Spring Shots, a glossy supplement, at the end of the year.

Students enrolled in newspaper create The Wildcat Tales, a 16-page publication that appears about 10 times a year.

Also students taking journalism learn the basics of reporting, writing, editing and layout. These class members also have opportunities to contribute to The Wildcat Tales student newspaper.

Newspaper

Ad and Payment Deadlines

Payment for ad is due ten days before publication date. Signed business contract and approved ad are due one week before publication date. If any of the items have not been received by deadline, we cannot run the ad.

Payment

We accept cash and checks for payment. If you are legally unable to pay for an ad without proof of publication first, please request a Proof of Publication Contract. Payment for this contract is due five days after receiving proof of publication. For those who plan on advertising in multiple issues, we will accept bulk payment. If you would like an invoice, please request one and it will be provided.

Policy

All advertising is subject to review by the ad editor. The Wildcat Tales reserves the right to refuse any advertising that violates Plano ISD guidelines. Because we are a nonprofit organization and pay for production with advertising fees, we regret that we are unable to give discounts for running an ad multiple times. If you would like us to create an ad for you, please feel free to ask us and supply us with the information you would like in the ad. We will create it and send it to you for your approval before production.

Publication Dates

The Wildcat Tales will be published approximately every three weeks. We will accept requests for reservations in future issues.

Inserts

Pre-printed inserts only. The ad editor must receive one copy in advance to review acceptability. Inserts must be received ten days before publication. Approximately 2000 copies should be sent in, but this number may vary from issue to issue.

The Wildcat Tales is distributed in the halls, classrooms, library, and cafeteria and is sent to administration and schools throughout the district. More than 2500 students, faculty and parents read the paper. PSHS offers off-campus lunch, so “Student Specials” and coupons are widely used.
