A NOTE FROM YOUR PTSA……

Hello Wildcat Families,
I have some exciting news to share with you! Your PTSA is going “green” and doing everything online. We want to try and make things easy for you and now that is possible with just a few minutes of your time. You are able to go online to our website at www.pshsptsa.org and be able to do the following:

 Become a member of the Plano Senior High School PTSA
 View and purchase all spirit wear items
 Get signed up for the Princeton Review Practice Tests, September 17, 2011
 Purchase at home reading books for all English classes
 Enter the Reflections contest with the theme “Diversity Means”
 Purchase a school planner to keep your student organized
 Donations to support teacher requests and programming
 Hospitality Donation for Teacher Appreciation
 Sign up to become a volunteer in many different areas

With the budget cuts going on in Plano ISD, the staff at Plano Senior High School will be looking to the PTSA to help them support all the students in the classroom. Your commitment and support benefits all WILDCAT students and is very much appreciated. Remember we are the Booster Club for every student!

I am excited about this coming school year! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. You can contact me at our Plano Senior High School PTSA email address which is PSHS_PTSA@yahoo.com .

Take care,
Tamra Sadafsaz

Why Join the Plano Senior High School PTSA?
This is a frequently asked question at the Senior High level. Throughout elementary school, PTAs put on carnivals, sock hops, field day, book fairs, plus sell a variety of items to fund campus improvement projects and the teachers’ wish lists. At the Senior High, most of us think we are past that. Fundraising by the Plano Senior High School PTSA is minimal. Membership dues primarily help cover our programs, activities, services, and Plan After Prom. Plano After Prom is a drug and alcohol free event held directly after the Prom and is sponsored by the PTSA.

But we all benefit from the power of association – the organizing of persons with a common interest. Here are a few things to consider:

Parents join a PTSA to understand how to navigate within the school system and to establish a partnership with the teachers their children have. Parents join to have representation in education issues at the local, state and national levels of government. They can benefit from the programs that deal with issues particular to high school students - colleges, options besides college, standardized tests, and building and maintaining relationships in the family as well as outside the family.

Teachers join to have another voice in government issues regarding education and to show support of their own campus parent group.

Students join to increase a sense of citizenship on their campus and voice their opinions. It also looks impressive on a resume and offers the students a chance at college scholarships.

How Do I Join? www.pshsptsa.org
The cost of membership is $21.50 for the first member and $10.50 for each additional member. Go to www.pshsptsa.org to join. Or, stop by school and pick up a membership form in the front office. Members will receive a Plano Senior High School Student Directory.

Students are encouraged to join with their family or individually. Students who are members for 2 years will be eligible for a scholarship. Members will receive a Plano Senior High School Student Directory.
