Angelo State University, Carr Academic Scholarship—awards range from $1,000 to $4,500 incoming freshmen.  To compete for a Carr Academic Scholarship, applicant must rank in the top 45% and score a minimum 1020 SAT (combined math and critical reading) or a minimum composite 22 ACT.  To obtain an application and more information visit:  www.angelo.edu . Click Pay for College and Carr Academic Scholarship Program.  Meeting the priority deadline of December 1 will give you the best chance of earning a Carr Scholarship. Submit your scholarship application and secure your admission to ASU by that date. 

Annual Essay Contest on Ayn Rand’s Novel The Fountainhead  for 11th and 12th graders–Top Prize: $10,000.  To see rules and guidelines and to submit your essay, go to www.aynrandeducation.com. Click Essays and The Fountainhead.  Entry Deadline is April 26, 2010.

Barbara Jordan Historical Essay Competition, sponsored by The University of Texas—open to all Texas high schools grades 9-12.  Students research and write about the contributions of African Americans in Texas.  Students may use scholarships at the college/university of their choice.  For detailed information and an entry form, go to www.utexas.edu/world/barbarajordan.  All essays must be postmarked no later than February 1, 2010.

Baylor University, Carr P. Collins Scholars Program, $4,350/year, renewable up to three years.  Applicants must: meet all university requirements for unconditional admission; have a minimum combined Critical Reading & Math score of 1250 on the SAT or a minimum 28 on the ACT; have completed a balanced college prep program including history, science and a foreign language; be in the top quarter of the graduating class; and be a resident of the state of Texas for at least one year.  An application may be obtained at www.baylor.edu/admissions/CarrPCollins.  Postmark by January 31, 2010.

CoServ Electric—W. Tip Hall Jr. Scholarship—applicant’s permanent residence must be served by CoServ Electric and have a minimum of one year membership with CoServ. Postmark by January 29, 2010. Kansas, University of, Self Engineering Leadership Fellows Program for engineering and computer science students at KU—Is a program looking for leaders, not test scores—$20,000, 4-year financial package. Applicant need not be in the top in their class but must have an aptitude for math and science, a vision for success and leadership skills. To learn more about the program and application process go to www.engr.ku.edu/self.  Deadline to apply is January 15, 2010.

KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program—assists students with financial need who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a public institution within their legal state of residence.  Applicant must be maintaining a minimum high school GPA of 2.75. Scholar may begin college career at either a 2 or 4 year college/university as long as they stay on track to complete a bachelor’s degree (start date no later than 9/30/10).  Obtain additional details and apply online at www.kfcscholars.org. Application is available December 1, 2009 through February 10, 2009.

Michigan, University of, Ann Arbor—The Geisinger Scholarship Program, College of Engineering merit scholarship provides $20,000 in annual support to students from selected geographic areas.  Awarded to first-year students (non-Michigan residents) admitted to the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor for 2010-2011 academic year.  For additional information and an application, visit http://www.engin.umich.edu/students/scholarships/New_Students.html.  Applications must be received no later that 5:00 p.m. EST, January 15, 2010.

Missouri, University of, Columbia—Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business—The following are the three largest scholarships offered by the College of Business:
 1. Ponder Scholarship—minority scholarships that are awarded students majoring in accountancy,    economics, finance, international business, management, or marketing. The primary qualifications are being a minority, academic achievement, and financial need. Renewable.
2. Trulaske Scholars—are awarded to students pursuing degrees from the MU College of Business. First preference for selection of recipients is given to children of full-time active employees of True Mfg. Company and other directly related companies.  Additional preferences:  demonstrating financial need, graduating in upper two thirds but outside the top 10 percent of class.  Work experience and/or other related activities and leadership also considered.
3. Walton Scholars— Sam M. Walton Scholarships in Business are awarded to students majoring in economics, finance, international business, management, or marketing. Accountancy majors are not eligible.  See website for additional information.

Missouri, University of, Columbia—Non-Resident Scholarships
Departmental, Other MU General and Other Scholarships are available at www.scholarships.missouri.edu.  Deadline is December 1, 2009.

National Co-op Scholarship Program—open to students who apply and are accepted at one of the eight NCCE Partner Colleges and Universities (Drexel, Johnson & Wales, Kettering, Pace, Rochester Institute of Technology, Cincinnati, Toledo, and Wentworth Institute of Technology).   For additional information and online application visit www.co-op.eduDeadline for submitting application and essay is February 15, 2010.  Early submission is strongly encouraged.

NFIB  Young Entrepreneur Award—$1,000 to $10,000—open  to students who will attend a 2 or 4-year college/university or vocational/technical institute for the full 2010-2011 academic year.  Applicant should demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and initiative such as starting his/her own business, participation in organizations such as DECA, FBLA, FFA  etc. or  endeavors/work experience offered as a community service. e.g. babysitting, lawn care, tutoring.  An officially established business is not a requirement. Scholarships are merit based .For more details  and to apply online www.NFIB.com/YEAApply through December 31, 2009.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarship Program is comprised of 4 individual scholarship programs of which an applicant may apply for a maximum of 1 scholarship program.  Applicant must be eligible to attend a two/four year college/university or vocational/technical school.  The programs include RMHC: ASIA (at least one parent of Asian-Pacific heritage), African American Future Achievers (at least one parent of African American or Black Caribbean heritage), HACER (Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources, at least one parent of Hispanic heritage) and Scholars (all students regardless of race, color, etc. are eligible to apply).  The RMHC program is to “help students who dream of going to college but may not have the finances necessary to realize this dream”.  A copy of 2008 or 2009 IRS Form 1040 is required.

St. Edwards University, Austin --The Holy Cross Scholar Award—full tuition for four years.  Applicant must be in the top 10% of class and score a least a 1250* on the SAT or 28* on the ACT (*does not count the writing section). Leadership, service and academics are also considered.  All documents for the admission application and Holy Cross Scholar Award application must be received in the admission office by February 1, 2010. St. Edwards University, Austin—Trustees Scholar Award--$10,000 per year for four years.  Admission application must be postmarked by February 1, 2010.  You automatically qualify if you rank in the top 20% of your class and score at least a 1200*
on the SAT or 27* on the ACT (*does not count the writing section.)  Students with higher test  scores and class ranks ofter receive additional scholarship money. NO separate scholarship application is required.

Texas, University of, San Antonio—Honors College offers two scholarships for outstanding students.
1. The Presidential Honors Scholarship-20 offered-awarded solely on the basis of academic merit, $6,000 distributed at $1,500 per year for up to four years.  This scholarship can be combined with a need-based financial aid packet.  To apply students must also complete the UTSA Honors College Application.  Visit www.utsa.edu/honors.  Postmark deadline is February 15, 2010.
2. The Terry Foundation will select 16 incoming freshman as Terry Scholars.  The amount of the Terry Scholarships is based on the student’s need.  Applicants for this scholarship must also have a strong record of leadership and service. Students must complete the UTSA Terry Scholarship.  Applications are available at www.utsa.edu/terryscholars.  Postmark deadline is February 1,  2010.

Students must be admitted to UTSA to be admitted to the Honors College and to be considered for either of these scholarships. To be a strong candidate, applicants should be ranked in the top 20% of their high school class and should have a minimum 1100 SAT (V+M) or an ACT of 24 or higher. 

 

Haz La U Educational Grant Program-Hispanic Heritage Foundation partnering with Colgate-Palmolive “to encourage young Hispanics to “Haz La U” (Make the U) and get on the path to higher education”. One Grand Prize of a $10,000 Educational Grant, 15 first prizes of $1,000 each. Requires an application and a short essay of 500 words or less on, “How do you think education can impact the heritage of Hispanic generations to come?” One of the entrant’s biological parents must be Hispanic. AXA Achievement Scholarship, in association with U.S. News & World Report offers college scholarships of $10,00 and $25,000 to high school seniors  who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace.  Applicants must:

  • 1. be U.S. citizens or legal residents
    2. be current high school seniors who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two/four year college/university in the U.S. by fall 2010.
  • 3. Demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in an activity in school, the community or the workplace and
    4. be recommended by an unrelated adult who can attest to the student’s achievement.

Boston University—Trustee Scholarship Competition (a four-year, full-tuition scholarship to BU. For more information see www.bu.edu/admissions/trustee.  Deadline is December 1, 2009.  Other BU scholarship opportunities are available at www.bu.edu/admissions/scholarships

Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation-apply online at www.coca-colascholars.org. by October 31, 2009. Rewards leadership and excellence as exemplified through academic achievement and extracurricular activities, including commitment to community service.

Hispanic College Fund (HCF)—PepsiCo is partnering with the Hispanic College Fund to promote higher education among Hispanic students.  PepsiCo is offering 30 scholarships to assist with undergraduate and graduate studies including five scholarships worth $4,000 each, and 25 scholarships worth $500 each.  Recipients will be selected by the HCF. MetroPCS Community Scholars Program, $2,500-Open to seniors who plan to attend an accredited two or four year college/university.  Applicants must have demonstrated exceptional involvement in volunteerism and community service.  Additional criteria used to select recipients include: academics (minimum 3.0 GPA), honors, work experience, statement of goals, unusual personal or family circumstances and an outside appraisal.  Financial need is not considered.  Applications are available online at www.metropcs.com/scholarship.  Postmark deadline is November 25, 2009.

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards—recognizes students in the middle and high school grades who have demonstrated exemplary community service.  For additional information, instructions and to obtain an application visit  http://spirit.prudential.com or www.principals.org/prudential .  Deadline is November 2, 2009.

TCU Texas Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Award Program—One $5, 000 scholarship, Five $1,000 scholarships (Choose TCU and your scholarship money doubles)--recognizes young high school age entrepreneurs for their success in business. The award is open to any Texas high school student who has started and managed a business. To be eligible you must be enrolled in high school.  For more information or to apply online, go to: www.tcuyeya.org.  Applications are due November 1, 2009.

Young Epidemiology Scholars (YES) Competition—open to Juniors and Seniors— Finalists can receive up to $50,000 in college scholarships.
