“Red Ribbon Week” is America’s most important drug prevention event and is celebrated nationally every October between the 22nd and 26th by thousands of schools. This campaign was originally started by parents to show their commitment to providing a drug free future for our nation’s youth. The “Red Ribbons” were worn in honor of a United States law officer named Enrique who lost his life while trying to stop the drug gangs. The main emphasis has been to just “Say No to Drugs.” Today we wear ribbons, bracelets, buttons, etc. to help deliver a powerful message that will encourage our students to take a stand against drugs. See the week's activities below:

RED RIBBON WEEK ACTIVITIES
Monday,
October 22
I am me...drug free! - Wear you wrist band with pride to show you respect your health.
Tuesday,
October 23
Put on your Thinking Cap! - Wear your favorite hat to show that you are being mindful of the many choices you have to take care of yourself and your feelings.
Wednesday,
October 24
Reach out for others, not drugs! - Wear Red and sign your pledge card as support for others. Remember to bring a boxed or canned food item for the Food Drive.
Thursday,

Team up against drugs! - Wear your Saigling spirit shirt or your favorite sports team's shirt or jersey. As a team, we can "say NO to drugs" in many different ways.
At Saigling we are encouraging our students to participate in a variety of school wide activities that are promoted daily through slogans and catchy phrases delivered during the morning announcements. Additionally the students will learn ways to stay away from drugs and other harmful substances during guidance lessons. To help empower students, the focus has been expanded to include having respect for, and standing up for yourself, by making wise and healthy choices. Thus our theme is simply, “be mindful of choices.”

* On Monday, students will be given wrist bands to be worn all week.

* On Wednesday, students will be given the opportunity to sign a personal pledge card against drugs.
