| Children at Saigling Elementary learned first-hand on September 25, 2008 how city government works with the help of former teacher, Mayor Pat Evans. Students proclaimed the day as "Mayor Pat Evans" Day and she was presented a key to the school. |

Through the districts Integrated Curriculum, students have been learning about how systems work. They have learned that Saigling is its own community working together toward one goal. Stressing the importance of being a lifelong learner, students experienced first-hand how city goverment works with the help of Mayor Pat Evens. |
| Students learned that city council members are elected by citizens of Plano and that their job is to listen tothe people of Plano to make improvements. Mayor Evans explained the process it took to bring the Muehlenbeck Center, Plano's newest recreation center, to reality. |
