Prerequisite: None
THIS COURSE IS REQUIRED FOR GRADUATION. This course in health education is required of all students in grades nine through twelve. Students may receive equivalent credit for this course through the Medical Science Careers full-year course in career education. In Health I, students develop skills that will make them health literate adults. Students gain a deeper understanding of the knowledge and behaviors they use to safeguard their health, particularly pertaining to health risks. Students are taught how to access accurate information that they can use to promote health for themselves and others in such areas as fitness, nutrition, mental/emotional health, substance abuse, and interpersonal relationships. Students use problem solving, research, goal setting, and communication skills to protect their health and that of the community.

Foundations of Personal Fitness [.5]
Prerequisite: None
THIS COURSE IS REQUIRED FOR GRADUATION. The course Foundations of Personal Fitness must be 0.5 of the 1.5 credits of physical education. Students may receive waived or equivalent credit for this course through 3 semesters of athletics, drill team, cheerleading, marching band, ROTC, or career education. The idea that all people can achieve fitness is the emphasis of this course. The course is designed to allow students regardless of genetic makeup or the drive to be a successful competitive athlete to become physically fit. Everyone does have the ability to make themselves physically fit. Developing and maintaining personal fitness begins with knowledge characterized by this course. Students need to learn the components of fitness, the advantages of fitness, and the proper way to go about developing an appropriate program for their own personal fitness goals. Overall the students will learn that they can achieve and maintain good to high levels of personal fitness.

Physical Education [. 5]
Prerequisite: None
Students enrolled in this course will receive an orientation of the physical education program. A physical fitness test will be administered to the students. The main emphasis in the first semester will be on lifetime sports, wellness and physical fitness. Possible activities will include archery, golf, tennis, racquetball, badminton, bowling, or handball. Students will also be involved in seasonal team sports.
