Purpose

Plano ISD employs professional nurses to work with students and staff throughout the district. The focus of the program is to develop healthy life-styles with an emphasis on prevention of illness and absenteeism. The registered nurse provides temporary aid to students who become ill at school and works with students with chronic disabilities to enable them to function in the school setting. The nurse also serves as a resource for teachers, students, and parents regarding health matters. The registered nurse presents many health related programs to students at various grade levels. These programs include topics such as growth and development, drug education, and nutrition and hygiene.

Clinic

Shepton provides a clinic for temporary care for students who are ill or injured. The student must first report to class and obtain a pass from his/her teacher in order to report to the clinic. There is a nurse on duty or on call for emergencies. Before making a decision to send a student home or back to class, one or more of the following steps will be taken; the student's temperature is taken, the symptoms discussed, and/or the parent is contacted. An ill student will not be allowed to leave school unless parental permission has been given either to the nurse, attendance office, or a person listed on the emergency card prior to leaving campus.
