The music program at Wells Elementary includes:

• Music for K-3 twice a week
• Music for 4-5 50 minutes once a week
• Developmentally appropriate music making
• Unaccompanied singing before the use of instruments
• Experience before notation
• Literacy as the primary means for musical understanding
• Fine arts field trips to support curriculum
• The study of composers and a variety of musical compositions
• Free and guided movement, dancing, singing games, art and drama

 

The kind of music instruction used at Wells is commonly known as the "Kodaly Method" This method is considered among the best practices for musical literacy as outlined in the current TEKS and National Standards for music in the elementary school
