A Cappella Choir


This is a highly select group of students who perform music of various styles and historical periods. The award winning A Cappella Choir is a mixed choir formed by combination of the Concert Men and Concert Treble Choirs during 5th period. The A Cappella Choir is the official representative of the WHS Choral Department. Placement is by audition only. Students in A Cappella will be expected to attend sectional rehearsals outside of school, participate in several performances, and to constantly maintain eligibility by passing all classes. Students are also held to the highest expectations in regards to conduct, as membership in A Cappella is a privilege, and members should serve as exemplars. Any student who cannot comply may be moved to another choir. A Cappella is a UIL choir.

Women’s Chorus


Students are assisted in developing vocal and choral music arranged for the female voice. Sight-reading skills will be further developed in this course. This choir is open to 9th and 10th grade women upon audition and/or director’s recommendation. Students in Women’s Chorus will be expected to attend sectional rehearsals outside of school and to constantly maintain eligibility by passing all classes. Students are also held to high expectations in regards to conduct. Any student who cannot comply may be moved to another choir. Women’s Chorus meets in 6th period and is a UIL choir.

Male Chorus


Students in this choir will focus on further training and refining the singing voice and sight-reading abilities. Emphasis is on building a strong musical foundation, with at least one concert performance each semester. It is a training choir for A Cappella. All students in this choir are expected to work diligently to develop their musicianship and to demonstrate the discipline and conduct necessary for the ensemble to progress. Sectionals may occasionally be required. Membership in this choir is open to all 9th and 10th grade men, with director approval. Male Chorus meets during 2nd period. Male Chorus is a non-UIL choir. Male Chorus WILL participate in a Spring Choir Competition (pending eligibility.)

Williams Singers


Students in this choir will focus on the fundamentals of singing, sight-reading, and music theory. Emphasis is on building a strong musical foundation, with at least one concert performance each semester. Williams Singers is a training choir for Women’s Chorus. All students in this choir are expected to work diligently to develop their musicianship and to demonstrate the discipline and conduct necessary for the ensemble to progress. Sectionals may occasionally be called. Students in Williams Singers may audition at semester for placement in another choir. Factors in the director’s placement decision will include vocal technique, sight-reading ability, conduct, and work ethic. Williams Singers meet during 4th period and is a non-UIL choir. Williams Singers WILL participate in a Spring Choir Competition (pending eligibility.) Membership is open to all 9th & 10th grade women, with director approval.

Total Harmony


Total Harmony is WHS’s Pop/Jazz choir. This select mixed extra-curricular choir is open to all students currently enrolled in choir by audition only. The choir performs music of different contemporary styles, such as jazz, pop, rock & roll, R & B, etc. Elements of Total Harmony include song, theater, costume, and dance. A costume expense will be charged to each member. Membership into Total Harmony is by audition only. Auditions will be held Wednesday, September 7th. Rehearsals will be held twice a week, before or after school. All members MUST maintain eligibility AT ALL TIMES. The 2006/07 members are shown below.
