| American Classic Bluebonnet Music Festival | ||
| The WHS Orchestras also did extremely well in the American Classics Music Festival. The Camerata orchestra received an Excellent rating, while the Philharmonia & Sinfonia Orchestras received a Superior rating from the judges. Sophomore Cellist Nicole Shu was selected by the judges as one of the outstanding soloists in the festival. She received a medal and we are extremely proud of her as well. | ||
T. H. Williams High School is incredibly lucky to have many teachers, parents, but most of all, students that are interested in learning more about themselves as musicians and improving every day. As a memorable collaborative experience, the orchestra program allows students to work closely with other peers in order to make music. After an audition that all orchestra members (9-10) go through in the spring before the new school year starts, they are placed into one of three orchestras, Camerata, Philharmonia, or Sinfonia. In each orchestra, along with learning music and working together, students study music terms and theory weekly while also taking time to listen to different styles of music, widening their knowledge and perspectives. Currently, we are pleased to say that we have 150+ students in the orchestra program. In the 2008-2009 school year alone, our students have achieved many accomplishments. Twelve of our students, Danny Banh, Alexander Choi, Derek He, Conan Lee, Elizabeth Liu, Ujwal Madhavapeddi, Neil McHenry, Michele Myong, Jefferson Wang, Hanpei Zhang, Michelle Zhou and Amy Chyao made the annual Region XXV Orchestra. Several proceeded to all-area, and two students, Alexander Choi and Derek He, made the TMEA 2008-2009 All-State Orchestra. Coming up is Solo and Ensemble, where students get to prepare a solo or ensemble of their choice and perform it for feedback! Also, in the spring, the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest occurs, which is a serious group effort to present three songs for ratings. To alleviate a bit of the stress though, we also have a trip to San Antonio this semester. An eventful year awaits!
