John Chen, Former Williams Student, Shines in National Competition
|
PISD should be very excited about two of our students who have been honored as US Science STARS through the Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology held November 30-December 3 in New York City. Alexander Huang from PSHS competed as an individual with his project "Mathematical Modeling of a Eukaryotic Circadian Clock". John Chen, a student at PESH, competed on a team with a student from Allen High School. Their project is titled "Nitric Oxide from Electrospun Biodegradable Fibers".
John Chen and his partner placed third for their team project splitting a $40,000 prize and Alex Huang placed sixth to receive a $10,000 award! Students presented their projects competing against students from across the U.S. and three hundred projects were selected as semifinalists. As part of that group, Alex and John advanced to the Regional Finals in Austin. From there, they were selected as part of six team projects and six individual projects from all the regions to attend the national event in New York where their projects were presented for final judging.
Both students can be seen presenting their project to judges on the site below. It is quite impressive and fun! This is a tremendous accomplishment and recognition for these students. http://mapdigital.com/events/siemens/sc07/ |
