Program Overview
Special Education
is an opportunity for students with learning differences or delays to
receive individualized instruction in a variety of areas that affect their
academic success. Special Education is not just for students with severe
disabilities. A continuum of services from light intervention in the general
classroom to intensive, separate classroom instruction can be provided
according to each student's needs. Students with speech or language impairments,
physical disabilities, or emotional needs can receive therapy in a variety
of ways if they affect his/her successful performance in the classroom.
Special Education provides support, instruction, or therapy that addresses
the needs of each eligible child in a way that fits that child's individual
needs. Plano ISD believes in educating students in the least restrictive
environment. At Davis our philosophy emphasizes the importance of including
special education children in the general education classroom to the maximum
extent appropriate for their education needs.
Our services are
student-centered and promote respect, dignity and responsibility. In addition,
students will have a safe, educational environment and acceptance of their
differences which will produce individuals who achieve their highest potential
and become contributing members of society.
The goals of our
department are to develop a student centered learning environment, to
establish a rapport with the parents of children with special needs, and
to collaborate with the general education classroom teachers to enhance
academic programming for children with special needs.
