At Mitchell, we have a little motto in our art room:

A little bit of mess, but NO STRESS, makes a great day in art!

We really focus on having the right attitude; just trying your personal best and the rest will follow.
- But to get better at anything, you must practice!

It’s natural for children to compare their art, or themselves, to others. That adds a lot of stress on them, so I try to encourage the students to let the art take them where it wants to go. This class is where they should be able to express their true creative selves and not worry about if it’s “right”.

In class we discuss artists from all mediums and styles. We discuss current, working artists as well as the masters from long ago. We don’t try to copy someone else’s art because all art should be different! Artwork that is created by inspiration is what makes it unique, just like each individual artist in the room!
