Outdoor School Classes at Collin County Adventure Camp
We consider camp to be an extension of school therefore there are 4 classes that the students will be attending while at camp. Each class is 2 ½ hours in length and is taught outdoors.

Safety
Safety is our fist concern, and we try to remain prepared for any weather conditions. As long as students can be happy and safe outside, the program will include outdoor activities. All YMCA staff members are trained to monitor and recognize severe weather. Cabins and buildings serve as severe weather shelters.
The Forest Trail
The Forest Trail is a class taught by a faculty member from your school. The students will follow a 1 ½ mile trail through the forest. The students will examine plant life, dendrology and make observations dealing with the variety of ecosystems within the forest.
Prairie Land
The Prairie Land class is taught by a member of the Y –Staff. This class focuses on the study of the prairie and its development. Students will look at patterns of erosion, geologic formations, and patterns of succession in the prairie.
Water Lab and Boating
The Water Lab / Boating class is led by a Y-staff member. This is a 2 part class. One half of the class time will be spent studying pond ecology, the water cycle, and the organisms living in this aquatic system. The second half of the class the students will have the opportunity to canoe, paddle boat, and fish. Students will be required to wear a life vest to participate in these activities. Fishing equipment is provided for the students.
Challenge Course and Archery
