Child Development

This class will help develop knowledge and skills in child development. The study of how children develop, and the impact of parenting will be the focus. Some topics that will be covered are: preparation for parenthood, guidance techniques, the cause and prevention of child abuse, guiding children with special needs and child development stages.

 

  • Relationships (Individual and Family Life)

This senior level course is designed to examine personal and family relationships. This class is developed around discussions on friendships, dating, remaining single, marriage and parenting. Life skills, such as listening and dealing with stress are also explored.

 

  • Interior Design

This class covers all basic aspects of interior design and decorating. Design topics such as furniture arrangement, floor plans, accessories, window treatments, and furniture styles are covered. Career opportunities in interior design are emphasized.

 

  • Management

This course prepares one for living on your own as an independent adult. It provides you with skills and knowledge in areas of personal management skills, money management, healthy living practices, and selection and care of apartments, automobiles and clothing.  Sections on kitchen management and cooking on a budget are also covered in a six week unit.

 

  • Career Studies

This course provides opportunities to explore factors influencing career choices and demonstrate employability skills that lead to career success. This course will represent a semester of self-assessment, decision-making and research to enable the graduate to choose a major and a career.

 

  • Sports Nutrition

This course investigates the relationships between the amounts and types of foods consumed and physical health. Course content includes:

  1. The role of nutrition in physical performance and wellness.
  2. Determining reliable nutrition information including
    information about nutritional supplements.
  3. The functions of nutrients.
  4. Pre-game meals and recovery foods for athletes.

 

 

  • Early Childhood Professions

This course is a two-hour block that is for the entire year.
This class provides students the opportunity to work directly with children. Students leave campus and teach in the elementary schools, community preschools, or other childcare businesses. Students work and teach in the on-site preschool.  This is an application program, and students must provide their own transportation to and from the field site.
A criminal history check and a professional appearance are required.
