Geometry

CREDIT: 1
PREREQUISITE: Algebra I
DESCRIPTION: Geometry is a course that uses logic, reasoning, and critical thinking skills in order to reach conclusions. Many postulates, definitions, and theorems are learned.

The course content includes the following:
  • Points, lines, planes and angles
  • Deductive reasoning
  • Parallel and perpendicular lines and planes
  • Congruent triangles
  • Quadrilaterals and other polygons
  • Inequalities
  • Similar polygons
  • Circles
  • Constructions and loci
  • Areas and perimeters of plane figures
  • Areas and volumes of solids
  • Coordinate geometry
  • Transformations
HOMEWORK: Homework from the textbook or on worksheets is assigned nightly.
TESTS: Tests are given approximately every 2- 2 1/2 weeks.
SPECIAL SUPPLIES: A compass, protractor, straightedge and a scientific calculator are required.
PROJECTS: Projects are assigned occasionally on such topics as geometry in real life, string art, scale drawings, etc.
NOTES: Students choosing to take geometry should realize that they will not just be "doing" problems; they will be "reasoning through" problems.
