“The JROTC WOLF Battalion Is Back, 2009-2010”

Cadets of the JROTC Wolf Battalion experienced an exhilarating 2008-2009 school year. As with all previous years, all cadets in JROTC graduated. This year we graduated 20 of 20 seniors, with 20 of 20 going on to college. This year’s graduating JROTC Cadets received over $ 1.5 million dollars in scholarships. We are proud of our graduates, as they upheld the scholarship tradition and we bid them a fond farewell. One of many classes taught in JROTC is Financial Management, where cadets are taught everything from balancing a checkbook, to understanding credit, insurance, investments, and how to apply to college and how to apply for and earn college scholarships. There is no doubt that this year’s graduates will be just as successful as previous year’s graduates.

Throughout summer vacation, the mighty Wolf Battalion participated in several events. We completed Command & Staff School, Officer Candidate School, and the Non-Commissioned Officer School. We’d also like to congratulate all of our cadets who attended the various state leadership seminars. Giavana DiGiorno, Julie DeSousa and Tempestt Carter who were selected for and attended the Texas Bluebonnet Texas Girl’s State. The following male cadets were selected for and attended Texas Boy’s State: Christopher Gordon, Alex Sniffen, and Christopher Dawson. The following cadets were selected for and attended the Military Order of World Wars Summer Leadership Program: Alex Sniffen, Giavana DiGiorno, Christopher Gordon, and Christopher Dawson. Success through leadership and leadership through success is what we teach.

We are pleased to welcome the incoming new cadets. My first of many recommendations to the new cadets: do not fool around. Your high school grade point average starts the first six weeks. First Sergeant Ford and I will be monitoring your progress every step of the way. Do not let us or yourself down. You can play after you graduate from college! Practice for all the competitive team started in earnest this week (31 Aug – 4 Sep). Everyone needs to take practice serious. Remember the ole’ saying, “Practice makes perfect.” This past week, cadets have been fitted and receiving their uniforms. We expect them to wear it with pride and respect, and to uphold the reputation that the Wolf Battalion has worked so hard for. Our calendar is in the Download section. School Year 2009-2010 is going to be a busy year. There will be many exciting challenges and enough for everyone to do. Get involved and make a difference. For the parents of the new cadets, I would encourage you to get involved with the Patriot Booster Club. They are an integral part of all that we do, and we accomplish all that we do with parent support. Just check it out.

The JROTC WOLF Battalion is back and ready to make 2009-2010 a great one!
