“The JROTC WOLF Battalion
Is Back”
The Plano West Senior High School JROTC
Wolf Battalion enjoyed an enormous amount of success
during the last school year. Graduating cadets earned
$2.3 million in scholarship money. Twenty-three of twenty-four
cadets went on to two or four year college and one went
to a technical school in Florida for animation art.
Then we had Erik and Melanie attend the Naval Academy,
and four cadets went off to college on full four year
ROTC Scholarships. We achieved the status of Honor Unit
with Distinction in our off-year annual inspection,
and we’re proud to call ourselves a Gold Star
Unit for the 8th year in a row. A good year by anyone’s
standards
Cadets started this year during summer
vacation. The competitive teams started practice the
first week of August, and select cadets attended the
Officer and Non-commissioned Officer School. Congratulations
to the distinguished Officer graduate from PWSH, Kathy
Bunch, and to Alex Sniffen, from Jasper, for being named
the Top NCO.
In the mighty Wolf Battalion, we not
only pride ourselves in our military knowledge and bearing,
but we take great pains to in our scholastic endeavors
as well. During the summer, some Junior (now Senior)
cadets were given the honor of attending Texas Boys
State at the University of Texas at Austin and Texas
Bluebonnet Girls State at Texas Lutheran University.
Artem Neretin, Tyler Kuhlman, B.J. Bernadas, Grant Stout,
and Tyler Kuhlman went to Boys State, while Ali Barnes
went to Girls State. Cadets Ali Barnes, Grant Stout,
Artem Neretin, Michael Fitussi, and Ben Prager were
also chosen to attend and attended the Military Order
of the World Wars Youth Leadership Conferences. Congratulations
to all of these distinguished cadets!
We’re looking forward to the
Officer Commissioning Ceremony on 18 September and our
Battalion Picnic on 22 September. It’s a great
way for cadets to get to know one another in a comfortable
and relaxed setting. We’re also eager for the
first drill meets of the year at Denton (29 September),
Lewisville (20 October), and
Ft Worth (17 November). There are so many challenging
and exciting events ahead of us this year.
We’d also like to thank the Patriot
Booster Club for their continuing dedication and support.
We wouldn’t be able to accomplish half the things
we do without these amazing parents. For more information
