YEARBOOK: Students please watch for something that looks like junk mail from Jostens. It will be the order form for the purchase of a yearbook. Don't forget to get one this year!! The all-color 320 page book will be $75. You can make checks payable to Jostens and mail in the order form or you can go to jostensyearbooks.com and order online. Thanks FAMILIES OF SENIORS.

Start your holiday shopping at the Snowflake Bazaar - Do you need holiday gifts for friends and family members? Plan to attend the annual Snowflake Holiday Bazaar at Plano West Senior High School, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 and Noon-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8. Admission is free.   More than 130 vendors will be on hand, making it a great place to shop
for seasonal items and a wide range of home-made specialties including floral designs, gourmet food items and jewelry. There will also be a café for refreshments. The event is open to the public and will be held at the Plano West Senior High School, 5601 West Parker Blvd., between Preston Road and the Dallas North Tollway, just west of Willow Bend Drive.  The Bazaar, sponsored by the school’s Band Boosters, serves as a major fundraiser for the award-winning band. The Plano West Band Boosters will be selling raffle tickets at the Snowflake Bazaar on Saturday and Sunday for an autographed and framed Taylor Swift poster. Taylor signed this especially for the "Wolves" and tickets are just $5. Come by the Snowflake Bazaar and support the Band and maybe you'll win this one of a kind poster from Taylor Swift!

DECA group photos: will be held in the Presentation Room at 8:30 and 4:30 on Tuesday, November 10th!  Be there if you want to be in the yearbook as a member of this club.

French Honor Society: Our group photo will be Tuesday Nov. 10th after school at 4:20 in the Presentation Room. Please wear your tee-shirt. There are a few tee-shirts left if you'd like to purchase one ($12), come by the French classroom. If you wish to sign up for ushering Beauty and the Beast come by Mme. Schneider's room A 1097. You will receive a point for this activity. The soccer game will be Saturday Nov. 14th at 2 o'clock at the school field. You must sign up and return a permission slip. Come by A 1097 to get the necessary form.

Chinese Honor Society: Please come for the yearbook's group shot on Tuesday, Nov. 10, after school at 4:20pm.

Glenn Miller Night Tickets on Sales Now! The Plano West Senior High Jazz Band - will present its annual Glenn Miller Night "Putting on the Ritz" dinner and show on Tuesday, November 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Plano West Cafeteria.  Tickets are $25 and include a sit-down dinner, catered by Macaroni Grill, and free Swing Dance lessons. The band will perform a broad assortment of Glenn Miller big band tunes and will feature guest performers from Plano West Syncopation.  All ticket proceeds benefit the Plano West Band Program. Ticket sales end on Tuesday, Nov. 17.  (The free dance lessons will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 21 in the Plano West Cafeteria.)

Beauty and the Beast Musical at Plano West
- Who could ever learn to love a beast? Come to Plano West Senior High’s presentation of Beauty and the Beast, November 19-21 at 7 pm and November 22 at 2pm, to find out. Tickets are $13 for students and $18 for adults, and are available through the Plano West Theatre Box Office during lunch hours and after school. Call the box office at 469-752-9854 to inquire.

Mu Alpha Theta: Yearbook photos will be on November 10. Please meet in the Presentation Room at 8:45 a.m. The next meeting is November 12, in Mrs. Pruitt's room (zero hour) and Mrs. Fritz's room (7th period and after school).

Pals: Do you have any gently used coats at home to donate? Bring to the Pals room A1153 or place in the box in the Plano West foyer. PALs is teaming up with the Salvation Army and we need your coats.

Do you shop at Tom Thumb? Have a Tom Thumb rewards card? If so, you can easily support your Plano West PALs! All you have to do is stop by the customer service desk to link your Rewards card to the number 9051 and 1% of your purchase will benefit PALs. Your contributions will not affect your own Rewards at all. Thank you for your support.

DECA Members: there is a general meeting next Tuesday Nov 10th at Zero hour, A Lunch and 7th Period in Mrs Kick's room. We'll be discussing the Mav's Game, DECA Hours Requirements, T-Shirts, Stay Day, and Competition. Also, next Wednesday, November 11th at 8:30 AM, all DECA members need to get a group photo taken in the Presentation Room. If you are not there, you will not be pictured in the yearbook for DECA.

AD Design Group: Waiting time is over... this month's Design Night is around the corner! Tuesday, November 10 at 7:00 pm in Ms. Adam's room, A2059. We'll have another exciting guest speaker and some free time to work on any AD Design work! It's a great time to get things done, socialize, and learn more about advertising. Food and drinks will be served. Hope to see you there!

Princeton Review: Testing Strategies - 10 a.m. – noon, Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 - Spring Creek Campus Conference Center 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway Plano. Find out all you need to know about the SAT and ACT in this informational session. A Princeton Review instructor will lead you through a few techniques to help you on these high stakes admissions tests. Where will your scores take you? FBLA: members please come by Cordray's room and pick up a parent packet. It must be signed and returned no later than Monday, Nov 30th!!! Only return those forms that have a star in the right corner. Our next meeting is Tuesday, November 10th before and after school.

Group Shots for all Clubs and Organizations for the Yearbook: - Tues. 11/10 and Wed. 11/11, Morning session - 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., Afternoon session - 4:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Both days... Come to the Presentation Room and we will take your group shot for the Yearbook. Each organization decides the time your group will meet for the picture. The yearbook staff will have multiple cameras to accommodate the various groups. We want all to be in the yearbook, so please do not be left out.

REVISED !!!! PTSA Reflections 2009 -2010-Reflections deadline EXTENDED to Wednesday November 18th. Calling all Plano West artists, photographers, writers, musicians, dancers, and filmmakers: show off your creativity and enter this year's PTA Reflections Program. The theme "Beauty Is..." lets you highlight your artistic talents. There are six categories: literature (essay, short story, drama, or poem), visual arts (painting, drawing, collage), photography, dance choreography, film/video production, or musical composition. Each student may submit multiple entries in all categories. The PWSH deadline for all entries is Wednesday November 18th. Reflections rules and entry forms are available at the Texas PTA Reflections site (http://www.txpta.org/programs/reflections/) and in the school office. The Shepton High School Speech Team will host a Speech Tournament for Grades 6-8 On Saturday, November 14, 2009. We are in need of mature judges who are capable of giving kind-hearted constructive criticism on ballots. Any adult may judge. Eligible students must be in 10th, 11th, or 12th grades. We would greatly appreciate your valuable time and help in judging. There will be a judge’s workshop for those judges with little or no experience on Wednesday, November 11. The workshop will be held in room C-204 at 4:20 p.m. You can pick up the form in Ms. Lewis' room #2075. Please return this form by Thursday, November 5th to Mr. Hammer, Mrs. Caldwell, or Mrs. Darce, or to one of the competitive speech students.

PLANO WEST FOOD DRIVE: PLEASE BRING ANY NON-PERISHABLE FOOD OR TOILETRY ITEM TO YOUR 2ND PERIOD CLASS TO HELP THE NEEDY IN PLANO BETWEEN NOW AND NOVEMBER 19TH.

"2B an Architect" is an opportunity for all high school students and their parents who are interested in learning where to begin and what it takes to be an Architect.  The college fair (1:00-2:00 and 3:30-4:30) and information sessions (2:00-3:30) will be held at The Dallas Center for Architecture, 1909 Woodall Rodgers Freeway, Dallas 75201 on Saturday, November 21, 2009.  Seating is limited.  Reservations may be made by calling Ania Deptuch at 214-880-1508.

Scholarship Opportunities:

Scholarship opportunities are starting to arrive in the Counseling Office. 
If you meet the eligibility requirements, please stop by for additional information.  Please note that two of these are available to Juniors as well as Seniors.
-AXA Achievement Scholarship (in association with U.S. News & World Report) - Seniors who plan to attend a U.S. college or university and who demonstrate ambition and drive as evidenced by outstanding achievements in activities in school, the community or work place; must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.  Deadline is December 15, 2009.  Fifty-two awards of $10,000 each (state level); additional ten awards of $15,000 each (national level).
-John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest - Juniors or Seniors who write an essay that describes how an elected official demonstrated political courage by addressing an issue at the local, state or national level.  Deadline is January 9, 2010.  First place is $10,000; second place is $1,000; up to five additional awards of $500 each.
-Dr. Seuss's Oh The Places You'll Go! Scholarship - Seniors who write an essay about what kinds of opportunities and challenges you think your education will present in the future.  Deadline is February 15, 2010.  Award is $5,000.
-Boston University has announced The Trustee Scholarship Competition for a four-year, full-tuition scholarship to Boston University.  All application and nomination materials are available online at www.bu.edu/admissions/trustee.
-Davidson College is accepting nominations for The John Montgomery Belk Scholarship which is annually renewable and equivalent to the college's comprehensive fees.  Since Plano West may only submit one nominee for this scholarship, please stop by the counseling office for more information.
-Ayn Rand Institute Essay Scholarship - The Fountainhead.  Open to juniors and seniors who read the book and complete the on-line application.  Deadline is April 25, 2010.  Various awards from $50 to $10,000.
-MetroPCS Community Scholars Program - Seniors who plan to attend college on a full-time basis and who have a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Selection is based on exceptional involvement in community service, school activities, work experience, additional honors and academics.  Deadline is November 25, 2009.  There will be 83 awards of $2,500 each and one award of $25,000.
-Texas Student Housing Authority Scholarship - Seniors who are accepted into a Texas college or university in Austin, College Station or Denton and who plan to live in a Texas Student Housing off-campus facility.  Deadline is January 31, 2010.  There will be numerous awards of up to $2,500 each, renewable for 4 years.
Al's Formal Wear Scholarship - Seniors who plan to attend college in Fall 2010 and who are at least 17 years old.  Deadline is May 31, 2010.  There are two awards of $1,000 each
- Seniors who have applied to the University of North Carolina are invited to apply for the Levine Scholars Program if they have an ACT composite score of 29-36 or combined three sections of the SAT of 1800-2400, as well as an unweighted GPA of 3.8-4.0. This $137,000 scholarship over four years requires a nomination by a school counselor or teacher before November 16.
