Book Buddies is Shepard’s newest after school club. This club is designed for all Shepard Patriots who love books. Meetings are held after school in the Shepard cafeteria. Costumed guest readers read selections of fine children’s literature as a “hook” for interest in books. Meetings entice readers through dramatic readings, props, special guest storytellers and local authors. Book Buddies is designed to strengthen our feeling of community and meetings are dedicated to the pleasure of reading. After listening to a story the children cozy up with a pillow, a book, and a friend for some special Book Buddy time. Parents often join their children in small book buddy groups. Siblings pair up with siblings and friends to share their books. Friends gather in small clusters to share a story or read silently together. Often times older students can be found reading to younger children. At the end of each meeting drawings are held for free books and Shepard Patriot Spirit items. A special Book Buddy bookmark goes home with each Book Buddy to round out our reading extravaganza. Book Buddies, hosted by the Shepard Reading Team, is off to a great beginning and is sure to become a long standing Shepard tradition.
