Band at Vines
The
Vines Band program includes three performing concert bands; Wind Ensemble, Symphonic
and Concert, the Marching Band, which includes all students in the
band program, and the Vines Jazz Ensemble.
Spring
auditions determine placement in the band program. Audition material
will be given out in April for the audition to be played in late
April or early May at the Vines band room. The material usually
consists of two etudes of contrasting style, and scales.

Marching Band
Marching
Is Fun!! Most of the students and directors will tell you that marching
band is a fun time of the year. Yes, it is hard work. Yes, it is
sometimes uncomfortable. But some of the best time with your friends
will be in marching band. And you even get a PE waiver for being
in Fall semester band class.
Band Has No Cuts!! All students participate, as long as they are
academically eligible. You will not get to a point where you won’t
make “first string”.
Performances
Performance
opportunities at Vines exist throughout the year, beginning with
5 home football games, Band Night, Plano East Marching Contest,
UIL Marching Contest, and continuing with All-Region/All-State auditions,
Solo and Ensemble Contest, Winter and Spring Concerts, the Annual
Vines Band Spaghetti Supper, UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest,
and a Spring Festival. In even-numbered years, the bands travel
to an in-state festival, usually in San Antonio or Houston.
Parent Involvement
Parent
volunteers are a crucial part of the Vines Band program. Since the
opening of Vines, the Vines Band Boosters have been known for their
enthusiasm and interest in their child’s experience in the
band program. From spearheading the fund raising to providing chaperones
on short and long trips, the boosters are a real benefit to the
students in the band.
There
are many areas in which a parent may participate in the booster
organization. The Booster Board is the nucleus of the organization,
with the positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.
Other committee chair positions on the board include: Uniforms,
Car Wash, Pecan Sales, Magazine Sales, Passbook Sales, Spaghetti
Supper, Decorations, Parties, Spirit/Treat Coordinator, Newsletter,
Yard Sign, Announcer, and Audio/Visual.
We welcome and encourage your participation in the Vines Band Boosters.

Private
Lessons An
integral part of the band program at Vines is the private lesson
program. Private lessons are offered to all students in Plano ISD
from middle school through high school and senior high. Private
lesson instructors are paid $15 per lesson, usually 30 minutes in
length, and lessons may be provided during the student’s band
class. Students work with lesson teachers on solos, region audition
music, band music, exercises from method books, and technique builders
to improve their individual abilities.
