Symphony Orchestra
Philharmonic Orchestra, A and B
Full Orchestra

The purpose of the Vines Orchestra is:

  • To develop an understanding and appreciation for one of the greatest artistic achievements of man, the symphony orchestra repertoire.
  • To train students in music to a point where they may participate in the performance of these great works and to enable them to continue making music, whether as an avocation or profession, after graduation from high school.
  • To assist the students in growing into responsible and successful members of society, able to produce well both individually, and as a member of a group, and possessing the essential characteristics of integrity, dependability, and loyalty.
Orchestra:
This course is offered to all freshmen or sophomores with any type of orchestral background. Tryouts are held at the end of the year, usually April or May, and no student who tries out will be excluded. There are three levels to be placed in: Symphonic, Philharmonic, and String. Symphonic performs on a more professional level, Philharmonic is a step below Symphonic which also plays very advanced music. String is our advanced orchestra which is one step below Philharmonic.

Orchestra Ensemble:

Orchestra Ensemble is held every B-day. It, too, is divided into Symphonic Ensemble, which meets 6th period, and Philharmonic and String Ensemble which combine into 8th period. This class does not require the students to participate in a separate tryout; all it requires of them is extra time and commitment. Ensemble is an excellent way to further develop the students' talent, since it is an added day of orchestra. In Ensemble, students often work in duets, trios, or quartets. The director provides separate music for the Orchestra and Ensemble classes, but time is usually provided to work on the regular class music.
