Vines E News Infomation
August 27, 2008
A Message to Vines High School Parents:
I am writing to inform you about a situation that occurred today at Vines
High School.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., we detected smoke in the mechanical room and
experienced a power outage. We immediately evacuated the building. About 15
minutes later, we reentered the building after receiving the “all clear”
signal, but had no electrical service. The building remained cool, and
students and teachers continued the instructional day in classrooms with
natural light, in the library, and in the hallways. Because of the time of
day, we made the decision to dismiss school at the regular time.
The safety of our students is always our major concern. I would like to
compliment the Vines High School students as their behavior was exemplary
during this unexpected occurrence.
Sincerely,
Sarah Watkins

Howdy Vines
Did you know that as a High School Student (which you now have a Freshman or
Sophomore), that student can and should be a member of the PTSA, which
stands for Parents, Teachers, Students Association!!
Reasons to be a student member are…
• Scholarships available to members.
• Student Party for members only.
• Looks good on college applications.
• Membership money helps with extra programs coming in.
Please join your student in being a member of Vines PTSA!

ACT or SAT is more suited to their test taking abilities. Contact

ATTENDANCE
Absences: PARENTS – TELEPHONE CALL AND WRITE A NOTE – ALWAYS!
A parent/guardian must call the student absence line to report a student
absence. Call 469-752-7800 option 1 for English, or option 2 for Spanish,
next press option 3 to leave a message. Leave the student name, ID#, reason
for the absence, date of the absence and who is reporting the absence.
Parent Notes: A student has up to three days after an absence to turn in a
parent note in order to receive and excused absence. The note should
include the students name, ID number, reason and dates of the absence. A
parent call does not excuse the absence we have to have a note!
Leaving school ill: If a student becomes ill while at school, he/she should
go to the nurse’s office. The nurse will contact the parents. The student
must then sign out at the attendance office before leaving. A student
should NEVER call/text you from their cell phone to tell you they are sick
and to pick them up. Cell phone use is not allowed during school hours. We
have a phone available for student use at the attendance office.
Doctor Appointments: If your student must leave school early, PLEASE send a
note with him/her so he/she can be released from class. After the student
sign’s out for the doctor’s appointment they can meet you out front. A
doctor’s note is required when the student returns to school. The state
requires us to have a doctor’s note on file when a student is gone for part
of the school day.
Other Absences: Non-School activities must be pre-approved by the principal
in order for the student to make up missed work. The attendance office has
the form that needs to be filled out and turned in before the absence.
These absences are considered unexcused with make-up work allowed.
REMEMBER – NOTES PREVENT UNEXCUSED ABSENCES!
