HOSA
HOSA is collecting toiletries for Dallas area refugees.  What is a refugee?  It is "One who flees in search of refuge, as in times of war, political oppression, or religious persecution."  Dallas area refugees are mainly from Iraq, Afghanistan, Burma, Somalia, Bhutan, Sudan, Burundi and Rwanda.

The government provides housing for three months and provides food stamps until they get a job.  Since most of them don't speak any English and never had any formal education they end up with entry level temporary jobs and are laid off within weeks or in many cases within days, as they do not understand safety rules etc at work places.  Many of them are handicapped or single parents with 5/6 kids leaving them on a long waiting list for public housing.  These are legal refugees invited by us to this country on humanitarian grounds.  They have no resources, no jobs, and literally living on hand outs from the community.  There are many successful stories, but we have 100s of families living around us in the metroplex, who need these services, who are without any sanitary items or even many cases without food.

Please be generous with your donations of toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soap and other toiletries-the 4th period class who collects the most gets a prize!
Announcements to be repeated:

Construction News -- We have just begun work on Vines that will result in a new roof, science wing, administrative office suite, performing arts area, and counseling suite. Construction fencing has cut down on parking availability, so you may have to park on the street. We are nevertheless very excited about the improvements coming to our building. Attachment --
