Middle School Initiatives
The major goal of the middle school portion of the 2000 bond is to achieve classroom
standards in the various content areas to support the new curriculum development
project. In particular:
- Language Arts (English and Reading), Health, Science, and Social Studies
classrooms will be brought to a standard of eight desktop computers with necessary
cabling and furniture.
- Language Arts (English and Reading), Health, Science, Social Studies, Math
and Speech classrooms will receive a mounted video projection system and VCR.
- Language Arts (English - 2 per campus, Reading - 1 per campus), Health -
1 per campus, Math - 3 per campus, Science - 3 per campus and Theater - 1
per campus will receive an Elmo video image display (VID) device.
- Science will receive 1 flex digital camera per campus.
- Math (60 per campus) and Science (30 per campus) will receive graphing calculators.
- Foreign Language classrooms will receive a mounted TV, SVGA signal converter
and VCR.
- ESOL classrooms will receive six desktop computer systems, a mounted TV,
SVGA signal converter and VCR with Ellis software and necessary cabling and
furniture.
- Art classrooms will receive four enhanced desktop computer systems with
art tablets, a mounted TV, SVGA signal converter and VCR, a networked color
inkjet printer, a flatbed scanner and Photoshop software and necessary cabling
and furniture.
- Speech classrooms will receive four desktop computer systems, mounted video
projection system and VCR, video camera with tripod and CD/cassette recorder
and necessary cabling and furniture.
- Theater classrooms will receive a mounted TV, SVGA signal converter and
VCR, video camera with tripod.
- Any additional classrooms not configured as above will receive a mounted
TV, SVGA signal converter and VCR.
- Each middle school will be brought to a standard of three computer labs
(one per grade level) with a mounted TV, SVGA signal converter and VCR, and
a high capacity laser printer.
- Each middle school will receive nine additional digital cameras, laser printers
as necessary to reach the standard classrooms/printer ratio, up to four flatbed
scanners and up to five laserdisc players as needed.
- All middle school campuses will be affected as part of the overall replacement
plan for technology equipment.
