Plano Independent School District

Our Goal

The PISD K-9 unit is a part of the District Security department and consists of two handlers and two specially trained canines. One canine is a Contraband Detection canine and the other is an Explosives Detection canine. It is the responsibility of the K-9 unit to conduct searches and inspections of all the interiors and exteriors (including parking lots and vehicles) of all PISD buildings, owned and leased, for contraband. It is the PRIMARY goal and responsibility of the K-9 unit to act as deterrent to students, staff, and visitors from bringing contraband onto PISD

What We Do

The K-9 unit makes random visits to all PISD campuses and buildings. The K-9 unit does not schedule or announce their visits to campus administrators, staff, or students. During their visits, the K-9 team inspects classrooms, lockers, vehicles, bags, purses, notebooks, bathrooms, gym lockers, hallways, libraries, building exteriors, common areas, and all other areas deemed necessary. The K-9 unit also provides demonstrations to students and staff on the capabilities of their canines and their role in the district.
