Computers@Home Projects

NSBA T+L Presentation now available!

Computers@Home was designed to help increase academic achievement by providing a home computer system to students who do not have access to that technology. It is a district-wide program that has had successful results for the students and their families.

"Providing our families with technology tools at home will further our district goal of equipping each student with the skills and knowledge necessary to graduate and to achieve at maximum potential"

Cathy Taylor, principal at Mendenhall Elementary School, said she is "amazed at the vision of the school district" in fulfilling this need for educationally disadvantaged students, their siblings and family members. "Not only are our families receiving computers in their homes, but they are also receiving software, training, technical support and monthly classes to learn to utilize new software. This program will improve our students' literacy, math and writing skills...It is an extension of their school day and a way to involve families in their childrens' education."

Debby Moilanen, principal at Sigler Elementary School, added that "We have completed our initial program, including our first follow-up training, and we have given 80 computers to families that have impacted 110 of our students, not including their additional siblings who attend our middle and high schools. We cannot tell you how excited these families are to have these computers. Your staff was absolutely wonderful about getting us what we needed, when we needed it. We hope they feel as good about this program and the contribution they have made to these families as we at Sigler do!"
