GETTING
STARTED
1. Go to Microsoft Applications.
2. Double click on the MS POWERPOINT icon
3. Click in the circle to select TEMPLATES
4. Select the tab PRESENTATION DESIGNS if it is not showing.
5. Click once on each icon to see the design.
6. When you find the one you want to use, click OK.
7. Select the first slide example (Title slide).
8. Click OK. (Go ahead and SAVE now – See Don’t forget to Save
Your PowerPoint) |

MAKING
AND ADDING SLIDES
1. Click where it says, “Click to Add Title” and type
in the title for your presentation.
2. Click where it says, “Click to Add Sub-Title” and type in the subtitle
(maybe your name, class, etc.)
3. Now you are ready to ADD A NEW SLIDE.
4. Click on the NEW SLIDE button on the toolbar.
5. Choose the new slide that has a title and bulleted list.
6. Click where it says, “Click to Add Title” and type in the title
for the slide.
7. The Title would be _________ and the bulleted list would be the
facts about it.
8. Click where it says, “Click to Add Text” and type in the text for
the slide. (If you already have your facts in a Word document,
copy and paste from Word.)
9. Click on the NEW SLIDE button on the toolbar.
10. Continue to add new slides for your information.
11. What if you want to put in an OBJECT, like a picture, movie, or
Word Art?
12. Click on the NEW SLIDE button on the toolbar.
13. Choose the new slide that has a title only at the top and is blank
for the rest of the slide.
14. Give the slide a title and insert your object – see the section
on INSERTING OBJECTS.
15. There are other styles of new slide you can choose. Look for the
style that you want for the slide. (Object could be a sound file.)
16. Select it and click OK. |

COPY
AND PASTE
You can copy the text from the another document
that you saved to your Name/H drive and paste it into the PowerPoint
slide.
1. Have both Word and PowerPoint open. (You can see them on the task
bar at the bottom of the screen.)
2. Click on WORD on the task bar,
3. Open the Word document from your Name/H drive.
4. Highlight the text you want to copy
5. Go to EDIT, COPY or press CTRL+C to copy the text.
6. Click on POWERPOINT on the task bar.
7. Click in the TEXT box where the text is to be pasted.
8. Go to EDIT, PASTE or press CTRL+V to paste the text.
9. When ready for the next text, click WORD on the taskbar and
repeat the steps to copy and paste. |

INSERTING
OBJECTS (GRAPHICS, ETC.) INTO A SLIDE.
Many OBJECTS can be inserted easily into your slide
to enhance your presentation, such as graphics files you downloaded
from the Internet or copied from some other source, clip art, movies
and sounds. Word Art can also be placed on the slide with the
Word Art button on the Drawing toolbar.
1. Open the slide where you want to place the object.
2. Go to INSERT, PICTURE (or whatever object you want to insert.)
3. Choose FROM FILE.
4. Change the directory. Click the down arrow to the right of
LOOK IN.
5. Select your H drive. It will have your login name.
6. A list of your pictures will appear. Click on it ONCE to see
it in the preview.
Click OK to place it on the slide. |

CHANGING
THE SIZE OF THE TEXT
1. Click on the diagonal lines that make text box.
(This selects the entire box. If you want individual parts of
the text, just select them using the mouse to click, hold,
& drag and highlight the text you want.)
2. Click the down arrow by the font name to change the type of font.
3. Click the down arrow by the font size to change the size of the
font.
4. You can also change the font using the Increase and Decrease Font
Size buttons on the toolbar. (You must still have selected the text.)
5. You can also make the text bold, italic, underlined or shadowed.
6. You can change the color of the text using the Font Color button
on the Drawing toolbar. Click on the down arrow to the right of the
letter A of the Font Color button. |

DON’T
FORGET TO SAVE YOUR POWERPOINT!!!
1. Go to FILE, SAVE.
2. Change the directory. Click the down arrow to the right of
the SAVE IN dialog box.
3. Select your H drive. It will have your login name.
4. Give the file a name.
5. Click OK.
SAVE
FREQUENTLY!

There’s a lot more "bells &
whistles"
but you can have a great PowerPoint
with just what this sheet covers.
Play
around on your own to learn more
to enhance your presentation.
BUT – SAVE before you play.
That way if you accidentally mess it up royally,
you can exit without saving
and your nice “unmessed” PowerPoint is still there!
