Read to children both
in small groups and individually.
Help with homework.
Assist with computers.
Help with crafts.
Assist the teacher
by providing children with opportunities to practice reading and
writing.
Work with children
on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
English
as a Second Language Tutor
ESL tutors
are needed to work with parents having low English language and literacy
skills. Tutors work in small groups teaching survival English, the
importance of reading to their children and life skills involving
reading, speaking, listening and writing. Training is required.
General
Volunteers
General volunteers
are needed for the family literacy program in such activities as tutoring
parents in English, enrichment classes for children, and in family
activities to promote the importance of reading to children.
Librarian
Volunteers
are needed to staff our the library.
Speakers
Volunteers
are needed to come to our family literacy program and speak to our
adult class about their area of expertise. We are looking for professionals
to share a wide variety of topics including health care issues, parenting
skills, resume writing, job related personnel issues, etc.
