Accelerated Reading Instruction
(PAR-K, PAR-1, PAR-2, PAR-3, PAR-4, PAR-5)
Purpose:
To provide more supportive, more targeted, more intensive reading instruction directly connected to the student performance in specific areas assessed by the district diagnostic reading assessments (Reading Diagnosis Law 28.006).

Target Population/Strategies:
*Students in grades K-5
*Students performing below the grade level criterion in one or more areas of the district diagnostice assessments in grades K-5
*Regular Ed or Special Ed students
*Small group instruction (1-6) daily
Students exit each area as the grade level crierion is achieved
*District-Developed curriculum

 

Multi-Sensory Literacy
(Touchphonics)
Purpose:
To provide direct multisensory literacy instrucion for students identified with dyslexia.

Target Population/Strategies:
*2nd grade students
*Students identified with dyslexia
*Regular Ed or Special Ed students
*Small group (1-5), 35 minutes daily
*Herman Method instruction begins in 3rd grade

 

Herman Reading Purpose:
To provide direct multisensory literacy instrucion for students identified with dyslexia.

Target Population/Strategies:
*Age 8 and up
*Students with dyslexia
*Regular Ed or Special Ed students
*No more than 3 or 4 in a class
*45-50 minutes daily
*2 1/2 -3 year commitment
*Student exits reading and writing at the 6th grade level


Strategic Reading

Purpose:
To provide emergent, transitional, and fluent level direct reading instruction focused on reading and writing strategies and a high-frequency vocabulary.

 

Target Population/Strategies:
*Grades 1-12
*Special Education Students
*Emergent beginning readers who have some concepts of print
*Transitional readers who read and write on the 2nd-4th grade level
*Fluent readers who read and wr ite on the 5th-6th grade level
*45 minutes daily
*Small group instruction
*District-developed curriculum

 

Power Reading Purpose:
To remediate reading difficulties.
Target Population/Strategies:
*7th through 12th grade students
*All students who fail TAKS reading or who are below grade level at grades 7-9
*Regular Ed or Special Ed students
*Up to 3 units of credit possible at grades 9-12
*Large group instruction
