Organizing Idea: Cause and Effect

Unit Contents

Students define actions, interactions, cause and effect. They apply these concepts as they relate to energy; light and color, physical and magnetic force. Students learn where to find information as they research the lives of the historical figures honored on Presidents' Day, Veterans' Day, Memorial Day, and Martin Luther King Day. Students explore choices made by these historical figures and the effect they had on our country. Students learn about choices they must make in order to become successful adults. Students learn their choices can have amazing effects. They consider their future as they write how they can change the world.

Abraham Lincoln
IStudents will gain information by reading fiction and biography sources.

Berlioz the Bear
Cause and effect - Students can identify books as fiction and story elements that make the book fiction.

Gretchen & the Bicycle Dog - by Susan Jackson
Students will learn how curiosity can create cause and effects.

Holidays: Why Do We Have Them? - by Brenda McElyea
Students will discuss the reasons for holidays. Students will research a holiday, record information about it, and practice recording bibliographic information.

Cause and effect - Students will recognize examples of causes and effects, make predictions, and find clues from the front and back covers and illustrations.
