Integrated Curriculum Library Connections

4th Grade  / 1st Six Weeks

Overarching Concept: Communication

Organizing Idea: Clues That Communicate

Unit Contents

Students learn that various signs and symbols offer clues to good health and safety. They review bike and pedestrian safety, motor vehicles safety, fire and burn prevention, firearm injury prevention and water safety. How geographers communicate using tools such as longitude and latitude, legends and symbols, compass rose, and scale is an integral part of this unit of study. Students conduct research, solve logic problems, and create an island of their own as they discover how clues communicate information. Then they will focus on earth science as they learn about the relative motions of the Earth, moon and sun and how these motions affect our planet and its life forms.
