Unit Contents

As young students begin public school for the very first time, they will discover the components of a harmonious classroom. Students learn how classroom procedures and safety rules help to create a balanced and stable classroom. They concentrate on getting along and working together. Students experience activities that emphasize how they are special and unique yet alike in many ways. Students will use these skills to work together to explore properties of matter.

Students examine how they are alike and different as they are introduced to the concepts of fiction and non-fiction.

Alike and Different - Part Two by Brenda McElyea
Students will explore how books are alike and different.

Bear Sleepover - by Amy Guthrie
Review of library proceedures and storytime with bears.

Library Manners - by Cheryl Gee
Students will identify proper library behavior from a list of happy or sad sentences.

Library Manners Part Two - by Cheryl Gee
Students will identify proper library behavior after hearing two books about proper library etiquette.

Off to a Beary Good Start in the Library - Part 1 by Brenda McElyea
This is a very basic introduction to the library for first time visit by a Kindergarten class.

Off to a Beary Good Start in the Library - Part 2 by Brenda McElyea
This lessson is for a second visit or an extension of Part One and checkout books for the first time.

Working Together - by Cheryl Gee
Students will listen responsively to a story, recognize parts of a book, use vocabulary to describe ideas, and retell a story.
