2nd Grade  / 1st Six Weeks

Overarching Concept: Systems

Organizing Idea: Systems Keep Me Safe

Unit Contents

Students define a system as parts working together to perform a function and study the classroom as an example of a system. They discover what is needed to keep a system running smoothly, as they learn about safety, health, and wellness. Students learn about science, technology, and research systems that will help them learn all year. Several geography activities help students understand where they live in relation to the world: city, state, country, and continent. Identification of major landforms and bodies of water is also a focus in this unit.
