Organizing Idea: Where Is Harmony In Our World?

Unit Contents

This Organizing Idea will focus on how plants and animals live together in a common environment. The students will explore the adaptations of plants and animals and how they contribute to the balance and stability of the environment. When plants and animals are not in balance, there is instability and endangerment occurs. Understanding of balance and stability within the plant and animal world will help students understand how people maintain balance and stability within the human world. Students will also explore maintaining personal balance as they learn the harmful effects of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol.

Environmental Balance - by Mary Elam
By using Nettrekker, Internet navigation, use of keywords, search stratgies--OPAC keyword, gain information on human responsibiliy in keeping our environment balanced.

A Snake In the House - by Kelly Hamilton
Discussion of point of view concerning habitats & survival needs by reading books on various animals.

Where in the World Am I? - by Brenda McElyea
Students will examine where they are based on the Five Themes of Geography.
