Organizing Idea: How We Are Alike and Different in Our World
Unit Contents
In this Organizing Idea students will explore the meaning of the word diversity as a condition of being varied or different, yet part of a whole. They will discover how they are different from every other person, yet see that commonalties bind them to each other. In addition, students will study how they are part of a particular culture, and how cultures are the same and different around the world. Students will participate in a "USA Parade" and create a slide show presentation.

Become aware of the use of cause and effect, visual clues, summarizations, personal narritives in understanding stories or events.
Diversity: Alike and the Same - by Brenda McElyea
Students will learn about some of the various cultural backgrounds represented in America. Students will research, record information, and practice basic bibliographic skills.
What is a Landmark? (Diversity) - by Jayme Karen
Students learn about local, state, national and world landmarks using nonfiction titles and Power Point presentation.
