Organizing Idea: The Fine Arts Of Sharing
Unit Contents
This Organizing Idea focuses on the concept of communication. Students learn about visual, verbal, physical, and written communication. Students will learn about the science of light and visual communication. They will learn about reflection, refraction, the spectrum of colors and optics. The use of color and light in art and how it communicates a mood will be explored. The science of sound and communication is explored. Student will answer the questions: "What is Sound?" "Where does sound come from?" and "How does sound travel?" Students will explore a variety of museums to discover that these institutions hold things that have artistic, scientific, or historic value for our culture. The Organizing Idea will culminate with the opening of a Third Grade Museum and Cultural Arts Center. Students will display a product they have created that fits into one of those three categories

Finding information within books, using the various parts of a nonfiction book. Connecting fiction with nonfiction. Investigation and acquiring information from an interactive site.

Research of Communication Devices - by Kim Murff
The students will develop the ability to choose and use the appropriate resource in order to locate the necessary information for research while utilizing the laptops.
Which State Am I? (Research) - by Erin Graham
The students will be using various materials in the library to conduct research on the fifty states.
