The Texas Music Educators Association sponsors the all-region and all-state bands, choirs, and orchestras. Auditions are scheduled throughout the year at the region, area, and state level. Those selected to an all-state organization participate in rehearsals and a culminating concert at the annual TMEA convention held each February in San Antonio, Texas. In order to participate in the audition process, the student's director/teacher must be a member of TMEA, the student must meet academic eligibility guidelines, and the student must register by the deadline dates set each year.

The TMEA also sponsors competitions for school honor organizations throughout the state. Bands, choirs, and orchestras may submit a tape recording of one of their performances. After a multi-level selection process, the group judged best in the state is given the opportunity to perform at the annual convention.
