AAC
Chatterbugs Gulledge
Elementary This is our first year with an AAC classroom and we are anticipating great student progress. We are offering a specialized classroom environment that allows AAC students to become proficient in communication, literacy, mathematics and social skills. These skills will build an academic foundation that will provide them the opportunity to succeed as lifelong learners. Below are pictures of the room at the beginning of the school year. Assistive Technology trained campus staff, assisted in curriculum development, and provided equipment/materials.
School and home communication plays an important role. A variety of materials are used to encourage parent - staff communication. Organization of an AAC parent group provides time for the PISD staff to support and train parents. The parent group formed an AAC student group that meets monthly to participate activities that encourage communication. PAL (Peer Assistance Leadership) students from Robinson Middle School provide babysitting for the parents in the AAC classroom during parent meetings.
The team approach is a vital strategy for a successful classroom. Left
