AAC Homework Suggestions

Parents,

Below are suggestions to help your child complete their homework. Due to the individuality of assignments, devices, and abilities
use whatever information you feel will help your child. There may be many occasions where you may need to copy the your child's completed homework onto the paper. We, as educators, appreciate the extra effort you expend to help your child achieve! Please
feel free to submit suggestions and ideas below.

Assignment Suggestions for Completion
Draw a picture of _____

1. Cut out pictures from magazines and have your child choose the correct item/s.

2. Have a sibling draw several pictures and have the AAC user choose the appropriate item/s.

3. Let your child point, eye gaze, hand-over-hand (if appropriate) or use his/her device to find his/her choice.

Complete the sentence. 1. Your child can point, eye gaze, use his/her device, use the computer to write through his/her device.
Color the picture. 1. Let your child choose the color/s to use and assist with coloring if necessary. The picture becomes valuable when the student completes it to the best of their ability.
Write your name, spelling words, etc.

1. He/she can use the computer with their device with the alphabet page on their device and you can copy the answer. Some AAC devices will allow the student to save one homework assignment to their device.

2. Students can point to or eye gaze letters on an alphabet board.

General ideas

1. There are a variety ways to have your child to choose an item/answer;

A. Choosing an item:

a. Put items on the table/tray and let your child point, eye gaze, push unwanted items way.

b. Label items A, B, C, D, or 1, 2, 3, 4 and let your child point, eye gaze, choose the letter or number with his/her device.

c. Use a white erase board to write/draw items to give your child choices of answers.

d. Partner Assisted Scanning

Math

1. Use manipulatives (blocks, cheerios, candy, etc) for math problems. Using a magnetic board and magnetic tape you can make a manipulative board that offers the needed resistance many students require to manipulate objects.
