Drawing

Many times people only choose pencils and crayons to draw shapes and images. There are many tools that students can use to create drawings. In the ideas shared below are different ways to draw.

1. Sand Drawing
Texture Drawing
For this example sandpaper was
used for the background of the sand drawing. Any heavy paper, cardboard,
or mat board could be used.
Draw first with crayons. I have
students use a variety of materials
and overlap the materials. In this
example black crayons were used.
Place the sandpaper in a box with
low sides to contain the mess.
Have students draw lines and dots
using white glue or colored glue.
Drawing with glue should be
controlled without puddles. Colored
glue will add interest to the drawing.
Once the glue drawing is complete,
have students sprinkle the glue with
white silica sand (purchased from hardware or building supply store).
Use recycled shakers to distribute
the sand evenly. Take care to keep
sand from eyes.
Store the artwork in the box. Allow
the glue to dry over night.
Pick up the artwork by one corner
and allow the extra sand to fall into the box.
